Welcome to a special issue of the Weekly Bookmark. Today, we
will be focussing on the Communications Decency Ammendment that
was passed into law on Thursday, February 07, 1996. This bill
was attached to the Telecomm Reform Bill which was a rather
good bill (IMHO) except for the CDA. Take a look at the sites I
have put together and form your own opinions based on the
information.

The Blue Ribbon Campaign
Stop by this site put together by the Electronic Frontier
Foundation. It introduces their campaign, includes
graphics to support the campaign to be placed on your
webpage, and provides a listing of a few other supporting
pages. The Electronic Frontier Foundation also has an
extensive archive of information regarding the CDA as
well as other censorship and legal actions regarding the
internet.

Voters Telecommunication Watch
The VTW is a volunteer organization, concentrating on
legislation as it relates to telecommunications and civil
liberties. They do an excellent job of staying on top of
current and breaking legislation. They provide an
excellent webpage and newsletter to help you stay on top
of that legislation as well as archives and links.

Net Censorship Focus
The VTW has put together a page that they have
encourage everyone on the internet to make a links
to in their own webpages to encourage support for
the protest. This page outlines how to do that and
gives links to about 200 pages that have already
turned their pages black. At the bottom of the
document is a list of organizations that are
fighting the legislation.

ACLU et. al. v. Reno Brief
The ACLU has put the text of their court battle
against Janet Reno and the CDA online. Here is an
excerpt: "The plaintiffs in this First Amendment
challenge to the "Communications Decency Act of
1996" seek emergency relief to stop the enforcement
of provisions of the Act that criminalize their
expression of constitutionally protect information
and ideas over computer communications systems."
